Step back in time and add a touch of class to your event with Obie Hughes. Instrumental solo saxophonist who is always dressed to impress, performing popular music from the 1930’s-1980’s.  Blues & Jazz from the 1930’s-40’s. Love Songs from the  1950’s-60’s and Pop & Rock from the 1970’s-80’s.
This music is mostly slow to mid tempo easy listening with a hand full of upbeat tunes fitting for any occasion and all venues: corporate functions, clubhouses, weddings, private parties, bars & restaurants, wineries, casinos, fairs, festivals and hotel lounges.

Biography

With over 20 years experience performing, saxophonist/vocalist Obie Hughes has embraced a full and exciting career in music. He has shared the stage as the opening act for legendary artists such as Chuck Berry, BB King, Kenny Loggins, Joe Cocker, James Brown and also performed behind numerous known acts including Rock n Roll originators Lloyd Price and Roddy Jackson. 
Obie is band leader and creator of his artistically theatrical alias Ellington Hawk. Under the Ellington Hawk name, he performs mostly in the western United States and has had many sold out shows in Southern California. He has released one full length album, two EPs and three singles, all available through digital streaming platforms. 
Obie also performs regularly with soulful, rhythm & blues band Abby Girl & The Real Deal and has recorded a full length album with the group. You can also catch him on occasion as guest baritone sax player for American artists The Reverend Horton Heat, Nick Waterhouse and U.K artist Jackson Sloan.  Prior to these projects, Obie spent 20 + years with roots Rock n Roll band Rumble King. He recorded several full length albums and singles with the band and helped produce an award winning short film.  He and the band spent two decades performing original music at festivals, nightclubs, casinos, amphitheaters and corporate events including a 12 residency at Disneyland. 
Through the years Obie has maintained working relationships with a countless number of musicians, nightclub owners and casinos, including over a decade with Disneyland Entertainment.

what to expect

Upon arrival: Expect an on time arrival. Discrete set up and sound check. Professional but easy going attitude. Always dressed to impress unless otherwise informal attire is requested. 

Performance: Solo sets are amplified with a small PA sound system generally at low volume for small to medium sized rooms or courtyards (50-150 guests). Acoustic performance also available without sound system for intimate settings.  Live solo saxophone played along to prerecorded music.  Full band also available.  
Note: Obie is NOT a modern hip-hop/R&B style saxophonist or smooth Jazz artist.  The music is more laid back  with an old school classic vibe. Song list available upon request.
